The Chevrolet Volt now enters the third year as the second generation model. So, we can soon expect to see the all new 2018 Chevy Volt. This model is great for everyday ride; it is silent, it has pleasant interior and offers satisfying electric range. In the last couple of years, it has received upgraded battery which resulted in more electric range, few cosmetic changes which lead to sportier design and some refreshments inside the cabin. As well, the acceleration and efficiency were much improved in the past years.
Therefore, for the 2018 model year, there probably won’t be any major or revolutionary changes. The latest news claims that most of the upgrades will be visible in the base LT model. It should receive upgraded audio system and advanced safety features. Furthermore, the Company will delete a few exterior colors in favor of several new ones.
Like its forerunner, the new Volt will be available in base LT and Premier trim Levels. Its main competitors will be Chevy Bolt, Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid, Toyota Prius and Ford Fusion Energi.
2018 Chevy Volt powertrain and performance
The 2018 Chevy Volt will continue with a plug-in hybrid model. The upcoming hatchback is powered with a 1.5-liter inline-4 gas engine combined with an electric motor and 18.4 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. The gas engine is able to make 101 horses. This unit has a range of 53 miles of pure electric power and energy efficiency of 106 mpg. However, after the capacity of the battery is used and the 1.5-liter gas engine starts running, it is rated at 42 mpg combined. This electric engine can produce 149 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque. It comes with front-wheel drive system. As for the acceleration, it can reach 60 mph in around 8 seconds.
Design of exterior and interior
When it comes to exterior, the 2018 Chevy Volt features clean and attractive design. The whole body looks more aggressive and rakish. Compared to its forerunner, it won’t show any significant changes. The front end will get recognizable dual grille and narrow headlamps. Looking from the side, new Volt looks very similar to the Chevrolet Cruze model. Furthermore, the Company has deleted four colors and added three new ones. Those are: Cajun Red Tintcoat, Green Mist Metallic and Satin Steel Metallic.
Inside, the new 2018 Chevy Volt can accommodate four passengers comfortably. However, this time automaker added a third seatbelt on the back so theoretically it could welcome even five passengers. Unfortunately, this can only be possible if the fifth passenger is a child. The front seats are cozy and have very good lumbar support. The dashboard features an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This infotainment system also includes a 4G LTE hotspot.
Some of the standard features will be automatic climate control, push-button start, a rearview camera, ten airbags and so on.
The top trim levels will get heated leather seats, Bose audio, navigation etc. As for the safety, new Volt will offer blind spot monitors, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, rear-cross traffic and many others.
Release date and price of the 2018 Chevy Volt
It is still not confirmed when exactly the 2018 Chevy Volt will hit the market. We assume that it could be later this year, most likely in the fall. As for the pricing, it should start at around $ 34,000 and even more.
