2018 Nissan Leaf: Range, Specs, Price

The Nissan Company’s first built all-electric vehicle for masses is ready to be redesigned once again. It is the brand new 2018 Nissan Leaf. This compact hatchback is now entering the next generation so we can expect some major improvements in almost every area.

This model firstly debuted in 2010 and has gained the popularity all over the world. However, how the market of eco-friendly vehicles is getting wider and stronger each day, the Company has realized that the Leaf model should undergo some improvements in order to keep it fresh and competitive.

The new Nissan Leaf will represent the second generation model. It has been caught a few times during its testing on roads and despite the camouflage, we have been able to see in which way the new Leaf will differ from its predecessor. Firstly, it will feature sportier design and some new tech features inside. As well, some sources claim that it is going to receive new engine which will provide more power. The current model has the range of 107 miles and since the new Chevy Bolt is much stronger, we assume that the upcoming Leaf should appear with at least 200 miles range. If this appears to be true, new Nissan will compete against Tesla Model 3 and Chevrolet Bolt EV.

So, to resume, the sporty styling, advanced technology and new engine with improved mileage should definitively make it very popular among families and green car fans.

2018 Nissan Leaf engine and performance

The current model offers the range of 107 miles with 30 kWh battery. However, since the new Chevy Bolt has a range of around 238 miles and the Tesla Model 3 offers the range between 215-250 miles, the car maker will definitively have to improve its mileage. So, this means that the new 2018 Nissan Leaf should offer at least 200 miles range, including new engine and new battery pack. The current model uses an 80 kWh electric motor with 24 kWh or more powerful 30 kWh lithium-ion battery. The total output of this unit is 107 horses and 187 pound-feet of torque. However, the new drivetrain should produce at least 160 hp and the torque of 250 pound-feet in order to stay in line with its main rivals.

Design of exterior and interior

Speaking of the exterior, the new 2018 Nissan Leaf will receive sportier and more attractive design. The front end will feature larger V-shaped grille and a pair of thinner and more angular headlights. Above the grille, there will be sporty bumper with daytime running lights and air intakes at each side. The rear fascia will get new triangular, horizontal taillights.

When it comes to interior of the 2018 Nissan Leaf, there is still no official information. However, it is said that the cabin should receive a completely new look as well. We can expect new seats, door panels and new infotainment system. The spaciousness should be improved too, especially in the rear because of the mildly longer wheelbase. Moreover, some sources say that it will appear with a new Propilot Park technology which will make it one of the most advanced model in its segment.
