Audi promised to deliver three pure electric cars by 2020 and the growing trend of SUVs demands that the first model in the row will be the sport utility vehicle. The new green Audi should debut early next year and will get the inspiration from the Audi E-tron Quattro Concept model which was shown to the public at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new pure-EV Audi won’t be marketed with the Q6 badge yet it is expected to get the e-tron suffix. So, we should expect it as the 2018 Audi Q6 e-tron but Audi hasn’t confirmed the name yet. What is more important, the new model promises impressive range of over than 300 miles and sporty appearance similar as on the concept car.
2018 Audi Q6 e-tron: Design
Audi’s first mass production pure-EV SUV is expected to stay close in proportions of the concept car. It should also inherit its sporty styling. However, like the most of the production versions, the 2018 Audi Q6 e-tron will get some design elements toned down compared to the concept car.
The overall shape should be very similar as on the concept model. However, the production version should feature longer rear overhang and the face which will be in line with Audi’s available SUVs.
The profile of the model will, however, inherit concept car’s design but with the toned-down side skirts. The rear will get similar treatment as the concept e-tron version with close-resemblance taillights and sporty rear bumper.
What is also important, the sealed underbody and sporty exterior design should provide the class-best drag coefficient of about 0.25 Cd.
Audi hasn’t said much about the interior of its electric SUV. But, we should expect it to be in the line with Audi’s recently redesigned models. Audi will offer features like the newest version of its virtual cockpit and infotainment system. The model will also receive an array of advanced safety systems. There will also be attractive interior themes and plenty of available luxuries to enjoy in.
2018 Audi Q6 e-tron: Powertrain, Mileage
Audi’s first e-tron badged SUV should get capable electric motors and battery pack which will provide plenty of power and long range. The 2018 Audi Q6 e-tron will be the all-wheel drive model. Powered by the combo of electric motors it should provide the total of about 500 horsepower and similar torque. The projected drive range is over 300-plus miles. Some reports suggesting about 310 miles on the single charge.
Audi might also offer the inductive-charging solution. It will be interesting to see what charging time will this model need.
On the other hand, there is the possibility that Audi would offer the plug-in hybrid version and the fuel-cell electric version later in the life cycle.
2018 Audi Q6 e-tron: Arrival, Price
Audi’s rival for the Tesla Model X is expected in early 2018. The first price estimation of the 2018 Audi Q6 e-tron is about £60, 000.
