2018 Toyota Prius C: Release Date, Review

One of the most affordable hybrids in Toyota’s lineup and on the global market is set for a few updates for the 2018 model year. We are talking about the new 2018 Toyota Prius C. This model has been refreshed in 2016 and also received some minor adjustments such as restyled exterior, last year. So, this time, the upcoming Prius Hybrid will only get some minor upgrades.

The new Toyota Prius C is the smallest model in the Prius lineup, but surprisingly its offers sufficiently spacious cabin. It features a small but economical engine under its hood. Looking from the outside, the new Toyota will feature a more SUV-like appearance. However, the future Toyota will be slow and a bit noisy on the road but it could still be a good choice for the everyday city driving.

This compact hatchback will compete against Hyundai Ioniq, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Nissan Versa Note and Chevrolet Spark. It will be available in three trim levels.

The 2018 Toyota Prius C will feature a small hybrid powertrain under its hood. It will be a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine in a combination with an electric motor of 45 kWh which will have to output of 60 hp and a Nickel-Metal Hydride battery. All together they will be able to produce 99 horsepower and 82 pound-feet of torque. The engine pairs with an electronic continuously variable transmission. The front-wheel drive system will be standard on this model. As for the fuel economy, the upcoming Prius C gets 48 mpg in the city, 43 mpg on the highway and 46 mpg combined.

Design of exterior and interior

When it comes to exterior, the 2018 Toyota Prius C will feature a more SUV-like look. The front end will be more rounded and will feature reshaped hood and revised LED headlamps. On the rear end, we will notice long spoiler which will improve its aerodynamics. The tail lamps will be also slightly redesigned and will be equipped with LED lighting. The new Prius C will ride on 15-inch 8-spoke machined alloy wheels with grey finish.

Inside, the 2018 Toyota Prius C will offer sufficiently roomy and well equipped cabin. Although in the past years it has been improved with better and more quality materials, the cabin of the new Toyota still looks a bit outdated. On the other hand, this model offers comfortable seats which will be heated in the top trims. As well, the rear seats will be split-folding for more cargo space. The dashboard will also be refreshed and will feature a 6.1-inch touchscreen with USB.

As for the equipment, it will come standard with automatic climate control, a rearview camera, keyless entry, power windows, looks and mirrors. Moving to the next trim, new Prius will add cruise control, satellite and HD radio, navigation and so on. Moreover, the top trim will be available with a moonroof, heated side mirrors and LED fog lights.

Release date and price

The 2018 Toyota Prius C should go on sale later this year. As for the pricing, it will most likely start at around $21,000.
