After being on the market for seven years, the Ford manufacturer is once again launching its fun to drive hatchback. We are talking about the new 2018 Ford Focus Electric. The Focus is also available with a traditional gasoline engine and in several trims, but the hybrid version will only appear in one single trim level.
The Ford Focus EV is a five-door compact hatchback which offers clean and attractive exterior styling, decent range rating and cozy and nicely looking cabin. However, this model is not available in all markets and it cargo space is very small.
As the 2017 model year, it has finally gotten the new much-needed DC fast charger as the standard equipment and larger battery. So, for the 2018 Ford EV, we won’t see any major changes or upgrades. As the matter of fact, the upcoming Focus will appear with only one single change. It is the new color for the exterior.
The main rivals of the new Focus will be Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt EV, Hyundai Ioniq Electric, Volkswagen e-Golf and BMW i3.
2018 Ford Focus Electric engine and performance
Speaking of the powertrain of the new 2018 Ford Focus Electric, there won’t be any changes compared to the current model. It will be powered with an electric motor of 107 kWh. This motor will have the output of 143 horses and 184 pound-feet of torque and its driving range will be around 115 miles. It will be able to reach 62 mph in around 11.4 seconds. As for the fuel efficiency, the new Focus gets 118 MPGe in the city, 96 MPGe on the highway and 107 MPG e combine. Like we have previously mentioned, its predecessor now uses the new fast charger which provides the range of 75 miles with the charging of 30 minutes.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior design, the upcoming 2018 Ford Focus electric won’t differ from its forerunner. It features clean and handsome design of one hatchback, so there was no need for anything to change. The front fascia features chrome hexagonal grille with horizontal lines and a pair of narrow headlamps. The rounded rear end is also nicely sculpted and dominated by uniquely styled taillights. The Focus rides on standard 17-inch aluminum wheels. The only novelty this time is the introduction of the new exterior color-Green Metallic.
Inside, the 2018 Ford Focus Electric will keep with the same design of the interior as the current model. The cabin is able to welcome four passengers in surprisingly very comfortable and supportive seats. It is also quiet, much quieter than the gasoline version of this model. Furthermore, the materials used in the design of the cabin are quality and better looking compared to the other hatchbacks. However, its biggest flaw is very small cargo space.
Release date and price of the 2018 Ford Focus Electric
The 2018 Ford Focus Electric should hit the showrooms later this year. As for the price, it will most likely start at around $30,000.
