One of the Volvo’s best-selling models in the United States market is soon to be launched with many upgrades. It is the new 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-in-Hybrid. This XC60 has been on the market since 2008, and since 2013 it hasn’t been majorly upgraded till now. So, for the 2018 model we are about to see many upgrades and improvements.
The XC60 will be of course available with two traditional engines and a hybrid powertrain which will be very powerful and fuel efficient. The battery is going to be stronger too providing better fuel economy. It will now ride on the new platform and it will provide great driving experience. Furthermore, it will offer luxurious cabin with excellent safety and infotainment features. The upcoming XC60 will be offered in three trim levels which will also be available with a hybrid engine. Those are the base Momentum, R-Design and Inscription.
2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-in-Hybrid engine and performance
Under the hood of the 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-in-Hybrid will be placed a hybrid unit. It is going to be a combination of a 2.0-liter inline-4 supercharged engine with an electric motor of 87 hp. All together, they will be able to produce 400 horses and 472 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel drive system will be standard. Furthermore, the new Volvo will also receive a stronger battery of 10.4 kWh which will provide better all-electric range. As for the efficiency, it gets 54 MPGe and 25 mpg in the combined city-highway drive.
Design of exterior and interior
When it comes to exterior design, the 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-in-Hybrid will receive some minor but noticeable changes all over the body. Those will include revised grille, LED headlamps and bumper on the front and new LED taillights and restyled bumper on the rear fascia. The base model will ride on the standard 18-inch wheels while the higher trims will get larger 19-inch ones.
Inside, the new 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-in-Hybrid will feature luxurious and modern cabin. The seats are very comfortable and upholstered in premium leather. It can accommodate five passengers comfortably with plenty of head and leg room. Heated front and rear seats will be available too. The dashboard will receive a 9.3-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and an 8-inch driver information display. However, the higher trims will get lager 12.3-inch driver information screen.
As for the equipment, the base model comes standard with panoramic sunroof, Bluetooth, 4G LTE connectivity, audio system with 10 speakers, rear park assist camera, power tailgate and so on. The sport trim R-Design will add GPS navigation, keyless entry, sport seats etc. And the last, luxury trim will appear with rear wood trim, air conditioning, LED fog lights etc. Furthermore, Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 15 speakers will be available too.
Release date and price
The 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-in-Hybrid should go on sale this September. As for the price, it should start at around $53,000 and will go up to $69,000.
