The Suzuki Baleno is interesting 5-door hatchback designed to maximize interior comfort and cargo capacity but also capable to deliver efficient ride and all with low running costs. The Japanese carmaker introduced this B+ segment model at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor show. The car went on the sale in India in October 2015 and it is exclusively assembled in this country. To Japanize and European markets, this car arrived as the 2016 model while in Indonesia and Philippines debuted as the 2017 model.
The Baleno is built on the all-new platform with improved steal rigidity and also offers interesting engine options. The model is also strong on the equipment but Suzuki’s hatch has another card in the pocket and that is more efficient mild hybrid SHVS version. This version consumes less fuel while also emitting less CO2. The next versions of this appealing vehicle will be the 2018 Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid and will come with minor modifications and updates in the equipment aspect.
2018 Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid: Design
The Baleno models are not especially stylish from the outer perspective as that is one of the priorities of the premium superminis, but the model has balanced, European look that will attract rational buyers who prioritize functionally and equipment. The model features smooth lines and contours while creases on the front bumper and hood add some sharpness to its look. The flowing waistline also improves its look and the rear has some racy contours.
As for the changes on the 2018 Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid, there won’t be much as this model is the fresh design. Suzuki might offer new wheels and color options for this and other versions.
Space and interior practicality were priorities and the Baleno really scores there. The full-sized adults will have enough space in the front but there will be also enough leg and knee room for the rear passengers. The trunk space is also impressive and a 60/40 split fold rear seats can also open additional cargo room.
The model also has a nicely contoured dash with the interesting center stack. The touchscreen system functionates well and all models include Car Play and Mirror Link connectivity sat-nav, DAB radio, etc. All versions also have the rearview camera, six airbags, ABS, brake assist, electronic braking distribution, electronic stability control, etc.
2018 Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid: Powertrain
The Baleno is available with several engine options depending on the market. A 1.0-liter turbocharged three pot Boosterjet is an interesting engine capable of delivering 109 hp. A 1.4-liter I4 petrol is also available in Australia. In India, you can get a 1.2-liter four-cylinder K-Series Petrol and 1.3-liter four-cylinder diesel.
The 2018 Suzuki Baleno SHVS Hybrid will use the same electric-petrol setup as the current version. Suzuki offers the mild-hybrid version with the 1.2-liter Dualjet engine. An electric starter helps the engine under the hard acceleration and improves fuel economy. The system also accumulates the braking energy in 0.37 kWh battery and powering the onboard systems. This solution improves the fuel economy by around 4 mpg and also reduces emissions to 94g/km.
