The Lexus RX Hybrid model is available in two variants as the 350h and 450h which mostly differ in the powertrain or precisely output f the engine. Basically, their exterior is almost identical to the standard model and besides the badging and perhaps some small unique details, we won’t see any major differences. Here, we will mainly focus on the upcoming 2018 Lexus RX 450h Hybrid.
Generally, the Lexus RX Hybrid offers very handsome exterior design, pretty good acceleration and excellent hybrid gas mileage. It is good to handle too and has a sufficiently strong unit under the hood. The cabin is very pleasant and cozy too and the safety will be in the top of the class. For the 2018 model year, we most likely won’t see anything large since this model has received new design in 2016 and in 2017 it arrived with more standard features and tech systems.
2018 Lexus RX 450h Hybrid engine and performance
The 2018 Lexus RX 450h Hybrid will feature a hybrid unit under its hood. It will combine the traditional 3.5-liter V-6 with electric motors and a battery. The total output of this powertrain will be 259 horses and 247 pound-feet of torque. However, the 350h version will use the same engine but it will offer higher performance of 295 hp. The engine will pair to a continuously variable transmission. Furthermore, the all-wheel drive will be the only option unlike in the 350h which will also be available with front-wheel drive system too. As for the fuel efficiency, the new Lexus 450h gets 31 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg combined.
Design of exterior and interior
Visually, the upcoming 2018 Lexus RX 450h Hybrid will be the same as the current model. Its exterior design has been improved in 2016 when it has gotten sharper lines, and swooping roofline. The front end features recognizable brand’s spindle grille and a pair of slim and narrow headlamps which now come standard with LED lighting. The rear end is also nicely sculpted and gets attractive LED taillights. The Lexus 450h rides on standard 18-inch wheels.
Inside, the 2018 Lexus RX 450h Hybrid is very comfortable, spacious and has plenty of head and leg room for all the passengers. The seats are supportive, cozy and upholstered in leather. The rear ones can split and fold if needed. The dashboard features a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen with infotainment system. As well, a larger 12.3-inch screen will be available too. However, the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are unfortunately not in offer.
As for the equipment, it will come standard with dual-zone climate control, 12-speaker audio system, wood trim, keyless entry and ignition etc. Some of the optional features will be heated and ventilated seats, navigation, panoramic roof, blind spot monitors and so on. Furthermore, the safety systems will include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, active lane control etc.
Release date and price
The 2018 Lexus RX 450h Hybrid will go on sale this fall. The estimated price of the upcoming Lexus should be around $54,000.
