The Subaru car maker has released its latest Crosstrek SUV which represents the second generation of this model. The new Crosstrek will bring comfortable and quiet cabin, excellent capability and great standard equipment. What probably potential buyers won’t be impressed with is the same 2.0-liter inline-4 engine which will remain unchanged. However, according to the latest news, the automaker is planning to equip it with a hybrid unit too which should go on sale a few months after the standard version. So, the upcoming 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid should share the similar design as the upcoming version except for the engine. As the matter of fact, because of the new Subaru Global Platform which underpins it. So, this Subaru SUV model will be able to receive diesel, gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
2018 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid powertrain
The Crossrek hybrid model is discontinued for the 2017 model year. However, the Subaru manufacturer has prepared the next generation model and alongside the new hybrid technology too. The standard version gets the same 2.0-liter inline-4 engine with direct injection which is able to develop 152 horses (4 hp more from the outgoing model). It pairs with a 6-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission.
As for the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid engine, there is still no any official information. It is said that it will be powered with the latest hybrid system under its hood which should provide better fuel economy.
Design of exterior and interior
When it comes to exterior design, the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid should receive the same design as the standard version of this model. The latest Subaru should arrive with the same athletic, bold and handsome appearance. However, we will notice some small but noticeable upgrades all over the body. The changes on the front fascia include darker grille design and the new bumper which is placed lower and feature with more black plastics. The headlamps are also slightly refreshed and with LED lighting. Looking the side of the vehicle, there won’t be any major changes except a bit higher window line. On the rear end, we will also see a new design of the bumper and new black roof spoiler.
The interior of 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid will also follow the same design as the standard model. The Subaru manufacturer has done a pretty good work with a quieter cabin, more standard safety features and upgraded infotainment. The seats are more comfortable and the ride quality is significantly better. The dashboard features a 6.5-inch touchscreen with the infotainment system and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. However, an 8.0-inch display will be optional.
As for the equipment, the base model comes with cloth upholstery, split folding rear seats, Bluetooth, split folding rear seats etc. The higher trims will add leather upholstery, a moonroof, Harman Kardon premium audio system, and so on. Furthermore, the safety is raised to the higher level with available EyeSight system. This system offers adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, rear-cross traffic alert etc.
Release date and price
The standard Crosstrek goes on sale this fall while the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid should appear a few months after. As for the pricing, the base model should start at around $22,000. However, we assume that the hybrid should be more expensive.
