2018 Toyota Prius V: Release Date, Review, MPG

Finally, the Japanese car maker is giving a much needed redesign of its popular hybrid model. It is the new 2018 Toyota Prius V. The current model has been on the market since 2011 and since then it hasn’t undergone any major changes. This time, for the 2018 model year, we are hoping to see adjustments in the exterior styling and some upgrades inside the cabin. It will most likely feature similar design as the standard Prius. Perhaps, the new Prius V could be moved to the new platform which will make it larger. In the engine department, Toyota should use the same powertrain as the current model. Furthermore, the next Prius V is expected to show excellent fuel efficiency.

The main rivals of the upcoming Toyota will be Ford C-Max Hybrid and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

2018 Toyota Prius V engine and performance

Under the hood of the 2018 Toyota Prius V will be placed a hybrid engine. It will be a combination of a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine and a pair of electric motors. The engine will pair with a continuously variable transmission. The total output of this unit should be up to 136 horsepower. As for the fuel economy, the new Toyota gets 44 mpg in the city, 40 mpg on the highway and 42 mpg combined.

Design of exterior and interior

Speaking of the exterior, the upcoming 2018 Toyota Prius V will most likely feature similar design as the standard Toyota Prius. This means that it will receive similar headlamps and taillights. The whole body will get sharper lines as well. Furthermore, if the latest rumors are true, the new Toyota will ride on the brand’s TGNA architecture. If this comes true, the Prius V will slightly grow in size, as to say, it will be longer for around 2.4 inches and 0.6 inches wider.

When it comes to interior, there isn’t much information about. However, based on our predictions, the 2018 Toyota Prius V shouldn’t distinguish much from the current model. Perhaps, we can expect some changes considering materials and some adjustments here and there but nothing major. The Prius V is able to welcome up to five passengers in two rows of seats. The rear ones can split if needed for more cargo space. The seats are upholstered in fabric while the higher trims get SofTex upholstery. The dashboard will feature a 6.1-inch touchscreen and a 4.2-inch information display in the instrument color.
