At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, Honda has presented a hybrid version of its popular CR-V model. It is the 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid Concept. This Japanese SUV prototype has previewed the specifications and what we can expect from it but for the European market. As the matter of fact, this will be the first time that the company will offer a crossover SUV with a hybrid powertrain. There is still no any official information about the exact specs and performance of this hybrid unit. However, we assume that it should be similar, if not the same, engine which powers the Accord Sport Hybrid model. Visually, the upcoming Honda Hybrid will keep the recognizable look of the standard version. But it will receive some unique details so it differs from the base model and will get sportier appearance.
Furthermore, for the European market, the new Honda will be available with traditional petrol engine and either six-speed automatic or a continuously variable transmission. The diesel unit most likely won’t be available in Europe. Its main rivals on the market will be Nissan Rogue Hybrid and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.
2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid Concept powertrain
Under the hood of the 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid Concept will be placed a hybrid unit. However, the car maker hasn’t revealed any exact specs, performance nor range. On the other hand, based on the speculations, the upcoming Honda should feature the similar unit which powers the Accord Sport Hybrid. This model uses a 2.0-liter 4-cyliner Atkinson Cycle petrol unit and an electric unit of 124 kWh. There is also a lithium-ion battery which has the capacity of 1.3 kWh. All together they will be able to develop around 212 horses. The new Honda will have three driving modes: EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive. Furthermore, the Honda CR-V hybrid will be able to go on electricity only, but exact all-electric range is still unavailable.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid Concept will mostly keep the design of the current model since it is still fresh and competitive. Naturally, some small upgrades and adjustments are still expected. According to some sources, the new Honda should be slightly larger, precisely longer, taller and a bit wider than its predecessor. The whole body design will be more distinctive, sportier and more handsome.
Inside, unfortunately the car maker hasn’t revealed any precise details. Based on assumptions, the future 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid Concept shouldn’t distinguish much from the current model. Perhaps it could receive some interesting new touches here and there and upgraded materials, but generally the interior of the CR-V model is well done. The dashboard will most likely receive the same 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The safety will be on the high level as always offering adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking.
Release date and price
The new 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid Concept has just been presented at the Detroit Auto Show. However, it is still unknown when the production should start. As for the price, we only guess that it will most likely be slightly higher than current model.
