The Volvo car maker is about to release it very first electric vehicle. It is going to be a Volvo XC40 which will also be offered with a plug-in hybrid model. The upcoming 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-In Hybrid has just been presented to the world and it represents the smallest SUV in the brand’s lineup. Its design is of course inspired by its larger siblings, but naturally it will look more distinctive and unique. It is going to be the brand’s first model which will ride on the new CMA platform. As well, we can expect premium safety and entertainment tech features since the car is primary made for city driving, according to the words of the Volvo Company.
Furthermore, in the engine department, the new Volvo will be offered with traditional engines too but also with a plug-in hybrid. An all-electric version will also arrive at some point in the future. Its key competitors on the market are expected to be Range Rover Evoque, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-In Hybrid types of engines
The upcoming 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-In Hybrid will feature a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine in combination with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. The total output of this unit will be around 200 horses. As well, the new Volvo should feature a plug-in hybrid system combined with 4- and 6-cylinder units. However, the precise output or details are yet to be revealed.
Furthermore, there will also be traditional V-6 and V-8 engines which will power the standard model. As well, the company will launch an all-electric version of this model in near future.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-In Hybrid will ride on the newly developed Volvo’s CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform which allows the battery-electric units. When it comes to exterior, the upcoming XC40 will represent quite a refresh in the Volvo’s lineup. It will look very attractive and handsome. The whole body shape will be borrowed from its larger siblings. However, the front fascia will look more muscular and bold. It will feature black grille with nice chrome accents and a pair of attractive LED headlamps. The taillights will be similar to the ones found in the XC60 and XC90 models. As well, the new Volvo will feature new design of the front and rear bumpers.
Inside, the 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-In Hybrid will also receive the similar design of the dashboard and the center console of the larger XC60 and XC90. As well, we can expect sufficiently spacious, comfortable and very modern cabin. The equipment should be in the top of the class. So, some of the standard equipment should include Bluetooth, dual zone climate control, sunroof, upgraded infotainment system and so on. As for the safety, it will be provided with airbags, stability control, a rearview camera, lane keep assist and many others.

The 2019 Volvo XC40 Plug-In Hybrid should appear sometime during next year. Speaking of the price, it will most likely start at around $35,000 to $40,000.
