2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Hybrid: Design, Specs, Review

The German car maker is going to expand its C-Class lineup with a hybrid engine under its hood. It is the new 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Hybrid. Besides the hybrid version, the Mercedes will of course offer traditional three turbocharged units. It stands between the smaller CLA-Class and larger E-Class and S-Class models.

This compact sedan has been caught during its testing wearing minimal camouflage on the front and lower part of the rear fascia. Inside the cabin, there will be a few differences compared to the current model including infotainment system, new instrument cluster and revised steering-wheel. Generally, the 2018 model year won’t show many changes and we can only expect mild facelift.

Its main rivals on the market will be Lexus IS, Audi 4, Cadillac ATS, BMW 3 Series and Alfa Romeo Giulia.

Under the hood of the new 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Hybrid will be placed a hybrid drivetrain. It will be a combination of a 2.0-liter inline-4 unit and an electric motor. All together, they will be able to make 275 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The engine will pair with a 7-speed automatic transmission. As for the fuel economy, it gets 28 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway and 51 mpg-e. An all-electric range of this unit will be 9 miles.

On the other hand, besides the hybrid, there will also be three traditional engines to choose form. The base will be a 2.0-liter inline-4 which will be able to develop 241 hp and the torque of 273 pound-feet. This engine will pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The next option will be a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engine. The total output of this powertrain will be 362 hp and 384 pound-feet of torque. The last one will be the most powerful 4.0-liter V-8 twin-turbo unit. This drivetrain will be able to generate 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. This engine will be mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Design of exterior and interior

When it comes to exterior, based on the place of the camouflage, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Hybrid will get some refreshments of the front and rear fascias. So, on the front, we will notice slightly redesigned grille and redesigned headlamps. The bumper will also be new. The side profile will remain the same while the rear end will get new taillights and larger exhaust outlets with chrome details. Furthermore, we can also expect new design of the wheels.

Speaking of the interior, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Hybrid will feature the same design as the current model with only a couple of upgrades. So, the new Mercedes will get upgraded infotainment system, new design of the steering wheel and upgraded instrument cluster. Moreover, we might see new materials and some new colors inside the cabin too.

Release date and price

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Hybrid should arrive later this year or in the beginning of the next year. The price should be similar to the one of the current model.
