The Cadillac car maker has presented its new luxury sedan named ELR back in 2014. Then as the 2016 model year, the two-door ELR has gotten the upgraded version of the electric drive system which has enhanced its general performance. As well, the handling, steering and braking have been improved too. Furthermore, as the 2016 model year, the ELR has also gotten the new infotainment package which included Wi-Fi hotspot and OnStar 4G. There were also two optional Luxury and Safety packages which included latest safety systems. Some of them are rear collision warning, adaptive cruise control etc. After that, it has been put on hold because of the slow sales. However, the latest reports suggest that the General Motors car maker is planning to bring it back to the market. So, if the rumors come true, we are about to see the newest 2018 Cadillac ELR.
Unfortunately, there is still no any official information about the changes which are expected in the latest ELR. However, we believe that we might see some changes in styling and perhaps some upgrades in the tech department.
2018 Cadillac ELR engine and performance
Under the hood of the 2018 Cadillac ELR will be placed a plug-in hybrid engine. It will be a combination of a 1.4-liter inline-4 which has the output of 86 hp and 94 pound-feet of torque and an electric motor. This electric motor is able to generate 181 horses and the torque of 295 pound-feet. Altogether, this drivetrain will be able to make 217 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. There will also be a lithium-ion battery of 16.5 kWh which in all-electric mode can produce 157 hp. The front-wheel-drive system will be standard. Furthermore, it will be able to hit 60 mph in around 7 seconds. In all-electric mode, it will provide the range of around 37 miles. As for the fuel efficiency, it gets 32 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior, the ELR model looks very attractive, modern and handsome. The whole body is very sleek and well proportioned. It is based on the Chevy Volt underpinnings but it is slightly larger than the Volt model. Precisely, it is 8.9 inches longer, 0.7 inches lower and 2.3 inches wider. The front end is dominated by the brand’s recognizable large grille and a pair of elegant LED headlamps. However, some sources claim that this time, we will see some modifications on the front fascia particularly.
Inside, the 2018 Cadillac ELR is able to welcome four passengers. However, the rear seats won’t be that suitable for taller adults since they could lack headroom. The seats will be covered with leatherette; however, the leather upholstery will be available too. The cargo space isn’t much generous but can be improved if you fold the rear seats. The technology will most likely be upgraded with some new optional features.
Release date and price
The Company still hasn’t revealed the exact date of the arrival of the newest 2018 Cadillac ELR. The price is expected to be slightly higher than the price of the current version.
