The Toyota automaker has released its newest Sienna minivan, but unfortunately, the 2018 model year will once again arrive with no hybrid version in the offer. However, the latest news claim that in two years from now, we are about to see the all-new 2019 Toyota Sienna Hybrid.
Generally, the Sienna is a practical and very spacious vehicle which is a great choice for large families. As well, it also includes plenty of modern safety features such as Toyota Safety Sense-P which is now standard on all trims. As the 2017 model year, the Sienna has been upgraded with a new engine and transmission; and as the 2018 model year, it has gotten some visual changes on the exterior styling. As well, it has received some new tech features too. The 2019 Sienna is expected to continue with the same design, but the hybrid version will naturally feature a hybrid drivetrain under its hood.
Its main rivals on the market will be Honda Odyssey, Kia Sedona, Chrysler Pacifica and Dodge Grand Caravan.
2019 Toyota Sienna Hybrid powertrain
According to the latest rumors, the Japanese car maker will finally expand the Sienna lineup with a hybrid engine. So, the 2019 Toyota Sienna Hybrid should feature a hybrid drivetrain which will combine a traditional engine and electric motor. However, it is still not known precisely what unit will power it. However, it could easily be the same V-6 unit found in the standard version. It is a 3.5-liter V-6 which is able to develop 296 horses and 263 pound-feet of torque. This unit pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission and it is available with either front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. With FWD this unit gets 19/2722 mpg. With all-wheel drive it is rated at 18 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg combined. Naturally, the hybrid version should provide much better fuel economy.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior, the 2018 model has received several adjustments in styling which will be carried over in the upcoming 2019 Toyota Sienna Hybrid. Those included revised front fascia with a larger grille, revised headlamps and new design of the bumper. The rear end has also been restyled and its whole external appearance is now more aggressive.
Inside, the 2019 Toyota Sienna Hybrid will feature very spacious cabin. It will be able to welcome seven or eight passengers depending on a trim. As well, it is very comfortable and provides plenty of space for all the occupants. The cargo room is also very generous with 164.4 cubic feet of space. The dashboard will feature a 6.1-inch touchscreen which became standard for the 2018 model year.
As for the equipment, the new Sienna comes standard with five USB ports, Bluetooth, power locks and windows, the Entune 3.0 infotainment system etc. The higher trims will add leather upholstery, JBL audio system, navigation, 4G LTE with Wi-Fi connectivity etc. Furthermore, all the trims will arrive with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, airbags, stability control and anti-lock brakes.
Release date and price
It is still not confirmed when the 2019 Toyota Sienna Hybrid will hit the market. As for the price, it is expected to be higher than the price of the current model.
