The General Motors Company has announced the comeback of the newest 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Hybrid Pickup Trucks. The Silverado and Sierra models have already been available with the hybrid powertrains back in 2009. Precisely, the American manufacturer has introduced the new two-mode hybrid setup in these pickups; however, because of the lack of the interest and low sales, they have stopped with the production of this powertrain; and they released a redesigned version of the Silverado and Sierra in 2014.
So, the carmaker will soon present the newest versions of the full-size pickup trucks; but this time they will appear as the “mild” hybrid models. This means that they will use a traditional engine in a combination of one electric motor. This powertrain will show improvements in fuel economy compared to the current model. Perhaps it won’t be much but it will definitively be significant.
Furthermore, the next generation of Chevrolet Silverado will most likely be revealed at the North American International Auto Show in January 2018 in Detroit. And besides the new hybrid unit which will also be used in the Sierra model, it should arrive with upgraded technology and equipment. The lightweight materials used in its design will improve fuel economy even more. As well, we can also expect the new 10-speed transmission which is used in some GMC models such as Cadillac Escalade and Ford F-150.
2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Hybrid Pickup Trucks powertrain
Under the hood of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Hybrid Pickup Trucks will be placed the same engine. This hybrid unit will be a combination of a 5.3-liter V-8 engine and an electric motor which will give it 13 horses and 44 pound-feet of torque more. There will also be a lithium-ion battery of 0.45 kWh placed under the front seats. The engine should pair with the new 10-speed automatic gearbox. However, it might arrive with the familiar 8-speed automatic transmission as well. The rear-wheel drive system will be standard while the all-wheel drive should be optional as before. As for the fuel efficiency, it is estimated to be 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
On the other hand, they will also arrive with the traditional engines. Those will include a 4.3-liter V-6 and a 2.8-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine which will be used for the first time.
Design of exterior and interior
When it comes to exterior, the upcoming 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Hybrid Pickup Trucks will arrive with the same design as the standard version. Firstly, they will appear with the reduced weight because of the usage of more lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber in its design. This will, of course, affect the fuel economy like we have previously said. In the exterior design, we can expect some small adjustments in order to look fresh and more handsome.
Inside the cabin, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Hybrid Pickup Trucks should get more quality materials and advanced tech features. Unfortunately, there isn’t any further information, and we will have to wait for its debut to find out more.
Release date and price
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Hybrid Pickup Trucks should be presented in January. However, they should go on sale in the middle of 2018, most likely in summer. As for the price, we expect it to be slightly higher than the price of the current model.
