Nissan Serena S-Hybrid: Review, Specifications, Release Date

The Nissan Serena S-Hybrid is an MPV which was firstly introduced in 1991 by the well-known Nissan manufacturer. The S-Hybrid stands for “smart” and “simple” hybrid because of its compact hybrid system under its hood. The Serena hybrid represents one of the best fuel efficient vehicles in its class. As well, because of the very spacious interior space and capacity to welcome up to eight passengers, the Serena is one of the best-selling minivans among families.

The new version of the Nissan Serena S-Hybrid will feature more aggressive styling, especially on the front. The interior will be more refined, the dashboard should be slightly revised and this time there should be more safety features in the offer. Under the hood, we can expect the same hybrid engine which will provide great fuel efficiency. As well, the Nissan Serena S-Hybrid should receive the ProPILOT technology.

The Serena Hybrid will be available in two variants: Serena S-Hybrid Highway Star and Nissan Serena S-Hybrid Premium Highway Star. Its main rivals on the market will include Mazda 5, Peugeot 5008, Mazda Biante, Chevy Orlando and Volkswagen Cross Touran.

The Nissan Serena-Hybrid will feature a hybrid powertrain under its hood. It is going to be a combination of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with direct injection and an electric motor. This unit will be able to develop 145 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. The engine will pair with the Xtronic continuously variable transmission. As well, it will most likely be available with two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. Like we have mentioned before, the Serena Hybrid will show the best-in-the-class fuel efficiency.

Design of exterior and interior

Speaking of the exterior, the Nissan Serena S-Hybrid is a good-looking and attractive five-door minivan. The front end is dominated by the V-motion two-slat chrome grille, aggressively styled bumper, a pair of two-tier headlamps and LED signature lamps. The headlamps will be equipped with quality LED lighting which will provide great visibility. On the rear, there will be vertical LED taillights which will now be a bit shorter. The rear fog lights will also be very illuminative even at low-visibility conditions.

The interior of the Nissan Serena S-Hybrid will be very spacious. There will be three rows of seats and it will be able to accommodate up to eight passengers. The access to the second and the third row will be easy because of the sliding doors. Furthermore, both second and third row can be folded down if needed for more cargo room. There will also be several cup holders for the front and rear passengers as well. All the seats are very comfortable and all the passengers will have a seat belt.

As for the equipment, there will be an audio system, electric windows, air conditioning, touchscreen on the center of the dashboard etc. In the safety department, the emergency braking, airbags, smart rearview mirror, around view monitor and lane departure warning will also be standard.

Release date and price

The newest version of the Nissan Serena S-Hybrid should arrive sometime in 2018. The price will most likely be very similar to the one of the current model.
