The vehicle which will definitively draw your attention among hybrid models is the newest 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid. The Kia manufacturer has just released the 2018 model year, but latest news indicates that the 2019 model is on the way. Besides the hybrid version, the carmaker has also launched the Optima model with traditional engines.
What you will love about the new Kia Hybrid is its spacious and cozy interior equipped with many modern tech features. The safety features will also be on the highest level. Under the hood, the Optima is available with three gas engines while the hybrid version gets a hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines. The hybrid units will show much-improved fuel efficiency as well.
The main rivals of the new Kia Optima Hybrid will include Ford Fusion Hybrid, Buick Lacrosse, Honda Accord Sedan, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry.
2019 Kia Optima Hybrid engine and performance
The newest 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid will most likely keep the same units as the current model. So, there will be a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid engine. The first one will be a combination of a 2.0-liter inline 4 and an electric motor and a battery of 1.62 kWh. All together they will be able to produce 192 horses. The engine will pair with a 6-speed automatic and the front-wheel drive will be standard. As for the fuel efficiency, this unit gets 39/46/42 mpg.
The next is a plug-in hybrid which will be slightly more powerful. This unit will combine the same 2.0-liter inline-4, an electric motor and a battery pack of 9.8 kWh. The total output of this unit will be 202 hp. This engine will also be mated to a six-speed automatic and the standard front-wheel drive. An all-electric range of this unit will be up to 27 miles. Speaking of efficiency, it is rated at 103 MPGe and 40 mpg combined.
On the other hand, the standard version will use the same three types of engines. Those will include a 2.4-liter inline-4 with the output of 185 hp and 178 pound-feet of torque. The next is a 1.6-liter turbo-4 which can make 178 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque and a 2.0-liter turbo-4 which can produce 245 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior design, the 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid will continue with the same styling as the current model. Its body features sharp lines and a sloping roofline. The Kia Hybrid looks almost identical to the standard version except for a few badges on the front fenders and unique design of the grille.
Inside, the 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid will feature sufficiently spacious cabin which will look more luxurious and modern. It will also be quieter than before. However, the cargo space will be smaller than the one in the standard Optima because of the batteries. The seats will be upholstered in cloth while the higher trims will get leather upholstery. The 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard. The Hybrid EX trim will arrive with a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen.
As for the equipment, the base model will include 16-inch wheels, keyless ignition, Bluetooth, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Hybrid EX will add 17-inch wheels, Harman Kardon audio system with 10 speakers, power-adjustable heated front seats, electronic parking brake and a heated steering wheel.
Release date and price
The carmaker still hasn’t revealed when the 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid will go on sale. Its starting price should be similar to the one of the 2018 model which is around $26,000.
