2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid: MPG, Review, Interior

The Toyota Camry is a popular and attractive mid-size sedan which is now in its eighth generation. This model has been on market for three and a half decades; it has become the brand’s iconic vehicle and very popular on the road. The carmaker also offers a hybrid version of this model which shows better fuel efficiency than the standard version. The Camry model has been completely overhauled for the 2018 model year, so the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid should arrive pretty much unchanged.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid is a reliable and easy-to-use vehicle which provides smooth ride and very good handling. Visually, the Camry is very stylish and handsome. Inside the cabin, it provided lots of space, comfort and many modern features and controls which are easy to use. Under the hood, it features a hybrid engine which is very fuel efficient while the standard model is available with two traditional units. The 2018 model year has brought new exterior design, upgraded infotainment system and the new TNGA platform which is also used in the Prius and C-HR models.

Its main competition will include Honda Accord Hybrid, Ford Fusion Hybrid, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Kia Optima Hybrid.

The 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid will feature the same engine as the current model. This hybrid unit will combine a 2.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine, an electric motor of 88 kWh and a lithium-ion battery pack of 1.6 kWh. However, the higher trims will use a nickel-metal hydride battery. The total output of this unit will be 206 horsepower. The front-wheel drive system will be standard and it will use an electronically controlled two-motor hybrid system instead of the transmission.

As for the fuel economy, the base LE trim gets 51 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway. The higher trims, SE and XLE are rated at 44 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway.

Design of exterior and interior

Speaking of the exterior design, the Toyota Camry has been refreshed as the 2018 model year when it has gotten more athletic and more handsome styling. The front end gets a large grille and elongated and slim LED headlamps. The XSE trim level has also received four exhaust pipes. So, for the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid, we expect no changes this time.

The interior of the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid will be spacious, comfortable and functional. It is able to accommodate up to five passengers comfortably. The seats are covered in cloth in the base LE trim while the SE trim will get leatherette upholstery. The XLE will receive real leather. The dashboard will feature a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen with Toyota’s Entune infotainment system while the larger 8.0-inch display will be optional.

Speaking of the equipment, the base model comes with dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, USB, audio system with 6 speakers, a rearview camera, keyless entry/start, and so on. The SE trim will add larger 18-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. The range-topping trim will include two USB ports more, a chrome-tipped exhaust, adjustable rear headrests etc. Navigation, a JBL premium audio system, a 360-degree view camera system, and a wireless phone charger will be optional.

Release date and price

It is still not confirmed when the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid will join the market. The price should be similar to the current model and it starts at around $24,000.
