The Ford Company has confirmed that they are first planning to electrify the F-150 and Mustang models. However, this was just the beginning and soon after that, the manufacturer has announced some new models which should appear with hybrid powertrains too and those include Lincoln Navigator, Ford Escape and Expedition and Lincoln MKC. This time, we will focus on the 2019 Ford Expedition Hybrid. This model will feature a hybrid engine so as the Navigator, while the Ford Escape and Lincoln MKC will feature a plug-in hybrid engine.
The upcoming Expedition will arrive as a hybrid version for the first time. However, all the other characteristics should remain the same as for the 2018 model year. It represents one of the best sport utility vehicles which is very popular and gladly seen on the roads. It is very spacious, comfortable, attractive and an excellent off-roader. Furthermore, it has a great towing capability of up to 9,300 pounds. On the other hand, we must admit that it is not that fuel efficient, but with the newest hybrid drivetrain, we definitively expect better ratings.
Its main rivals will remain Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada and Chevy Suburban.
2019 Ford Expedition Hybrid powertrain
The standard Ford Expedition is available with one single engine under its hood. It is a 3.5-liter V-6 turbocharged engine with direct injection. It has the output of 375 to 400 horses and around 480 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and it is available with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive configurations. With rear-wheel drive, it gets 17/24/20 mpg. With all-wheel drive, it is rated at 16/21/18 mpg in the city/highway/combined.
The 2019 Ford Expedition Hybrid will now feature a hybrid engine for the first time. Unfortunately, the carmaker hasn’t revealed any precise information. However, we believe that it could be the same 3.5-liter V-6 combined with an electric motor. This engine should show significant improvements considering fuel efficiency.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 Ford Expedition Hybrid will look like the standard version of this model which is characterized by similar design with the F-150. Its front end features large grille, C-shaped headlamps, and a sporty bumper. The rear end will be a combination of Explorer’s tail lamps and LED lighting of the F-150. As well, there will be a large Expedition insignia in the middle.
The 2019 Ford Expedition Hybrid is a spacious vehicle which is able to accommodate up to eight passengers in three rows of seats. All the seats are comfortable, supportive and provide plenty of room, even in the third row. The second and the third-row seats can be folded down if needed for more cargo space. On the center of the dash, there will be a touchscreen with latest Sync 3 infotainment system and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity which are standard. There will also be six USB ports and an audio system. The higher trims will add B&O premium audio system with 12 speakers, leather upholstery, keyless entry and start, blind-spot monitors, heated and cooled seats and so on.
Release date and price
The 2019 Ford Expedition Hybrid should arrive sometime by the year of 2019. As for the price, it should be slightly higher than the price of the current model.
