Engine and performance of the 2018 BMW 5-Series Hybrid
The 2018 BMW 5-Series Hybrid will be powered by a plug-in hybrid engine. This unit will combine a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine and an electric motor. All together, they will be able to deliver 248 horses and 310 pound-feet of torque. An all-electric range will be up to 16 miles and the engine will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. As well, it will be available with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. As for the fuel economy, with RWD, it gets 29 mpg combined and 72 MPGe. However, with all-wheel drive, it is rated at 28 mpg combined and 67 MPGe.
On the other hand, the BMW 5-Series is also available with several traditional engines. The one is a 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 which is able to make 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The next is a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbocharged engine with the output of 335 horses and the torque of 332 pound-feet. Furthermore, the most powerful version will be a 4.4-liter V-8 turbocharged engine. This powertrain will be capable of making 456 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.
Design of exterior and interior
The external appearance of the 2018 BMW 5-Series Hybrid will keep with its familiar conservative look. The front end features the same twin-kidney grille and a pair of headlamps which are directly connected to the grille. On the rear, there will be LED taillights and chromed exhaust pipes.
As far as the interior of the 2018 BMW 5-Series Hybrid is concerned, we must notice that it features surprisingly quiet cabin which is comfortable and luxurious too. It seats five adults without any discomfort providing plenty of head and leg room. The dashboard will get a large 10.2-inch touchscreen for infotainment system.
