The current Chevy Volt is now in its second generation and was introduced in 2016. Since then it has been slightly refreshed and now the carmaker is preparing the newest 2019 Chevy Volt which should undergo a mid-cycle refresh. As well, some sources claim that this model might be discontinued by the year of 2022 and by then we should see the third-generation Chevy. So, if this appears to be true, it could be one of the last redesigns of the Chevy Volt.
The 2018 model year has brought the optional Driver Confidence Package which includes rear cross-traffic alert, blind-zone alert, and rear park assist. As well, there were some changes in the LT trim which now loses shift knob and leather-wrapped steering wheel while the Premier trim has added heated steering wheel.
For the 2019 Volt, it should receive a mid-cycle revision which will include some minor styling adjustments and a few more exterior colors. There should also be some small changes inside the cabin and perhaps more interior color combinations. Under the hood, we expect no changes at all.
2019 Chevy Volt engine and performance
Under the hood of the 2019 Chevy Volt will be placed one single engine option. It consists of a dual-electric motor and a 1.5 inline-4 which drives the generator and it’s used when the battery runs out of electricity. The total output of this unit is 149 hp and the torque of 294 pound-feet. An all-electric range of this 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery is up to 53 miles while combined is 420 miles. As for the fuel economy, it gets 106 MPGe and 43/42 mpg in the city/highway drive. The full recharge of the battery takes around four and a half hours.
Exterior and interior design
The newest 2019 Chevy Volt will feature the same styling of the current model which looks very handsome and attractive. The front end features narrow grille and angular headlamps which will now receive an integrated LED lighting. As well, we could see one or two new exterior colors this time.
Speaking of the interior, the upcoming 2019 Chevy Volt is able to welcome four passengers. The front seats provide enough space but the rear-seat occupants, especially the taller ones, might feel a bit tight. As well, the cargo space is unfortunately limited too. But generally, the cabin is quiet and sufficiently comfortable. The dashboard will get an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and the infotainment system.
The standard equipment of the Chevy Volt will include keyless ignition, remote start, automatic climate control, a 4G LTE hotspot and so on. As for the safety, there will be several airbags, a rearview camera, cruise control etc. Among optional features, there will be heated mirrors, heated steering wheel, Bose audio system, and leather upholstery. The Driver’s Confidence Package will add blind spot monitors, rear park assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
Release date and price
The 2019 Chevy Volt should arrive in late 2018. The pricing should be similar to the current model which starts at roughly $34,000.
