The first Honda Accord Hybrid arrived back in 2005 and has been present on the market for just three years. Then it came back as the 2014 model year with a plug-in hybrid engine and then the 2016 Accord has finally returned with a hybrid unit. So, now the 2018 model year which represents the third generation of this model has just been presented but the carmaker has announced the newest 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid.
The Honda Accord Hybrid is an attractive mid-size sedan which offers great fuel efficiency and a solid all-electric drive. It provides similar fuel economy as the Prius model. As well, it is modern and well-equipped. The 2018 model year has arrived lower and lighter than before but the engine has remained pretty much the same although it is a bit more powerful than its predecessor. The batteries are smaller too but only physically which affect larger gas tank which is placed between the trunk and rear seats. It will be available in four trim levels which include the base, EX, EX-L, and Touring versions. So, since the new-gen Accord Hybrid has been refreshed, the 2019 model year should carry over unchanged.
The engine and performance of the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid
Under the hood of the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid will be placed the same engine which powers the current version. It is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine which can make 143 hp combined with two electric motors which have the output of 181 horsepower. One electric motor is fixed to the gas engine and it serves as a generator and charges the battery. The second motor powers the front wheels. The total output of this unit is up to 212 horses. There is also a lithium-ion battery of 1.3 kWh. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission. As for the fuel economy, it is rated at 49 mpg in the city, 47 mpg on the highway and 48 mpg combined.
Exterior and interior design
Visually, the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid will look pretty much the same as the standard version. We can say with no doubt that it is one of the best looking mid-size sedans on the roads. The whole body is perfectly proportioned with clean lines and a sporty shape.
The interior of the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid is highly comfortable, quiet and functional. It is able to place four passengers without any discomfort but the fifth occupant could fit just fine as well. The dashboard will get a 70.-inch touchscreen in the base version while the higher trims will feature a larger 8.0-inch display.
The base model comes standard with cloth upholstery, Bluetooth, USB port, and 17-inch wheels. The EX model will add a moonroof, blind-spot monitors, satellite radio, heated seats and one more USB port also. The EX-L trim will include leather details, premium audio with 10 speakers, power-adjustable front seats, and optional navigation. Finally, the Touring trim will arrive with cooled and heated front seats, heated rear seats, navigation, a head-up display, wireless cellphone charging etc.
Release date and price
The release date of the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid hasn’t been confirmed yet. The price should remain similar to the one of the 2018 model year.
