The upcoming 2018 Ford Escape has entered the market with a new trim level called SEL which brought a power liftgate, leather seats, and an upgraded infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. As well, there are also some new features depending on a trim level but this time we will talk about the 2019 version which will appear with one big novelty. It is the newest 2019 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid. What we can conclude from the instant is that the Ford Motor Company will finally place a plug-in hybrid engine under the hood of the popular compact SUV.
The upcoming 2019 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid will probably feature the same styling as the standard model so as the design of the cabin and technology. It is easy-to-drive and provides excellent handling. The interior could be more modern and cozier but in the tech department, the Escape offers plenty of advanced features. The standard version is available with several types of engines among which a 2.0-liter unit provides the best acceleration. However, the newest plug-in hybrid version should deliver best fuel efficiency in the lineup.
2019 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid powertrain
The Ford manufacturer will finally fit the newest Escape with a plug-in hybrid engine. However, the exact output and precise information about the new hybrid are still unavailable; and we will have to wait for a while until the carmaker releases more data. But, according to the latest reports, the new Escape will offer a range of less than 30 miles on a single charge.
On the other hand, the standard model will be available with three types of engines. In short, the one will be a 2.5-liter inline 4 which will be able to make 168 hp and 170 pound-feet of torque. The second is a 1.5-liter inline turbo engine which has the output of 179 horses and the torque of 177 lb-ft. The last option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4. This one will be capable of producing 245 horsepower and the torque of 275 pound-feet. All the engines will work with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive will be standard while the all-wheel drive will be optional.
Exterior and interior design
The 2019 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid will receive the same design as the standard model which won’t differ from the previous version. The 2017 model year has gotten a new styling of the front fascia. And for a complete overhaul, we will have to wait a few years more.
New Plug-In Hybrid will feature a slightly more refined cabin although the comfort will remain the same. The seats are a bit firm and thin and won’t suit everyone’s taste. However, the cabin is generally roomy enough and the materials used in its design are of good quality. The cargo space is average and with the folded second row, it offers the room of 68 cubic feet.
When it comes to equipment, the base model comes with a 4.2-inch screen with Ford’s Sync infotainment system, air conditioning, cloth upholstery, a rearview camera, cruise control, an audio system with 6 speakers and so on.
Release date and price
The 2019 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid should be presented in late 2018 or at the beginning of 2019. The price should be slightly higher from the standard model.
