The famous German manufacturer has given its well-known four-door coupe some significant upgrades and it is the Mercedes-Benz CLS 450. It has made its world premiere at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show and it represents one of the brand’s first models to arrive with the new mild-hybrid engine combined with an inline-6 unit. The upcoming 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 Hybrid will represent the next, or precisely the third generation model which will bring numerous upgrades.
First, the brand-new CLC 450 will be underpinned with the Mercedes’ MRA modular platform which represents the combination of the S-Class and E-Class components. Its exterior styling will also be refreshed with more simple lines, smoother surfaces, and less edgy character. The cabin will finally grow in size and instead of four, the new Mercedes will finally be able to accommodate five passengers. As well the comfort will be significantly improved with new ambient lighting and more functions for the seats which will include heating, cooling and massage options. Furthermore, the biggest surprise is placed under the hood. The newest Mercedes will get the new engine which will provide more power with the new electrical system.
2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 Hybrid powertrain
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 Hybrid will feature a new engine. It is going to be a 3.0-liter inline-6 which will be able to make 362 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. This engine will be combined with a 48-volt electrical system which will give an extra 21 hp and the torque of 184 pound-feet. So, this new powertrain should be able to generate around 402 horses which are close to the 4.7-liter V-8 unit. The new CLS 450 will be available with both front-wheel and 4Matic all-wheel drive variants.
Design of exterior and interior
The design of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 Hybrid will be much simpler, less edgy and smoother compared to the previous generation. However, the overall shape will remain the same; it is a four-door coupe with a swooping roofline. As well, the new Mercedes will be slightly larger than before, for around 2 inches longer. Furthermore, the front fascia will feature a wider grille, more prominent air intakes which are now placed lower and the wider LED headlamps too. The rear end of the vehicle will be more aerodynamic than before. There will be the new two-section LED taillights. The side of the vehicle will feature a clean design with subtle details.
The cabin of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 Hybrid will finally provide more space, especially for the rear passengers. And instead of four, it will be able to welcome five passengers while the cargo room will stay pretty much the same and it provides the room of 18.4 cubic feet. The seats are covered in quality leather with elegant stitching. The will be offered with heating, cooling and massage functions. On the center of the dash, there will be a large 12.3-inch color touchscreen for infotainment system. For more premium feeling, there will be 64 different shades of the ambient lighting to choose from.
Release date and price
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 Hybrid should go on sale later this year, most likely in fall. The pricing is expected to be higher than the price of the current model which starts at around $76,000.
