The Mitsubishi Outlander is a three-row crossover SUV which is mainly popular among families with a limited budget since it is affordable, safe, and comes with the efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is one of a few compact SUVs which come with a third row and a plug-in hybrid. As well, it is one of the best-selling SUVs in Europe. The 2018 model year has added a 7.0-inch screen and a rearview camera as standard. The engine of the newest 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will be updated for better fuel economy and performance. It will no longer use a 2.0-liter Otto-cycle gas engine but instead the new 2.4-liter Atkinson-cycle gas unit. This engine will be combined with a stronger electric motor and larger battery of 13.8 kWh. Of course, we can expect better output and better fuel economy also. The all-electric range will be improved too and will be around 25 miles. The engine will be mated to a continuously variable transmission.
Design of exterior and interior
The new 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has arrived with some subtle yet noticeable changes in its exterior styling. On the front, we can notice restyled grille, rectangular fog lamps, and new LED headlamps. The rear end is fitted with a larger rear spoiler. Furthermore, we can also notice new 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels. All these changes have made the new Outlander more handsome and attractive.
The changes inside the cabin of the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV are minor. However, this time the seats are upholstered in quality leather. As well, there is a new instrument panel and upgraded switchgear. But generally, the interior of the Outlander is comfortable, quality and well-built.
The dashboard is equipped with a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment system and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Among other standard systems, there are USB, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, Bluetooth, a rearview camera etc. The safety equipment includes blind spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and so on.
Release date and price
The 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has just been presented to the public. The pricing is not yet announced but it is expected to stay close to the outgoing model. It starts at around $24,000.
